Kardashev defined three levels of civilizations, based on energy consumption:Type I with "technological level close to the level presently attained on earth, with energy consumption at ≈4×1019 erg/sec (4 × 1012 watts)". Type II, "a civilization capable of harnessing the energy radiated by its own star", and Type III, "a civilization in possession of energy on the scale of its own galaxy".[2]

В чем по Вашему мнению будет следующий серьезный прорыв в Вашей области исследований?

Возможно, что именно обнаружение входов в кротовые норы и явится прорывом для исследования многих основных проблем современной астрофизики и космологии.

He is engaged in looking for "wormholes" in the Galaxy.

A wormhole is "is a hypothetical topological feature that would fundamentally be a shortcut connecting two separate points inspacetime. A wormhole may connect extremely long distances such as a billion light years or more, short distances such as a few feet, different universes, and different points in time. A wormhole is much like a tunnel with two ends, each at separate points in spacetime."
