Walter Raleigh

Sir Walter Raleigh was more than a poet. He was a mariner and a lover of queen Elizabeth I. Hence, it is no surprise that he was decapitated, after a brief sojourn to the Tower.

In the poem The Lie, composed around 1592, he speaks of corruption and falsehood of his times.
